機械工程（Mechanical Engineering, 縮寫ME）屬于工程學科，是工程學科的一個分支，也是最古老最廣泛的學科之一。通過物理和材料科學原理（機械能、熱能）進行分析、設計、制造并進行機械系統的維護，主要專注于機器與引擎，從電子技術到機器人領域不等。
過去幾十年里，科學知識和技術的快速發展為機械工程帶來了顯著的變化，比如隨著計算機技術的發展，機械工程師現在普遍使用計算機輔助設計和計算機輔助制造（CAD/CAM）來設計和制造工程部件，如計算機數控機床、機器人、快速成型設備等。香港各工業部門的發展尤其迅速，需要年輕的機械工程師能夠進行大的工程項目的設計和制造。
